Avalon Park is located approximately 40 minutes from Atlanta. The community comprises 20 acres of wooded land. Its development has been approved by the city for a Phase II Expansion Plan that will create a new amphitheater and community gathering areas. The plan is a collaborative effort between Schroeder Architects, Vaughn & Melton Engineers, and the City of McDonough.

The neighborhood has a quaint charm, thanks to many classic homes that are carefully designed and crafted. The community also features neighborhood parks and tree-lined streets. Before the Great Depression, Avalon Park was a swampy area. The neighborhood was popular for fishing. Eventually, the city dump was located here, but this area became mosquito-infested. It was during this period that the park's name was officially changed to Avalon Park. In 1930, Robert Moore designed a plan for the park that incorporated elements of the Olmsted Brothers' designs. Avalon Park was eventually developed and improved, and a modern brick fieldhouse was constructed in 1958.
