Georgia Power Home Energy Rebates Guide

How To Get Up to $14,000 in Instant Savings on Your New HVAC System!  No Waiting for Reimbursement

One minute, you get that sinking feeling in your stomach when your home’s air conditioner dies in the middle of a July heatwave. You think to yourself, “How could this possibly get any worse?” You soon get your answer when you see exactly how much another repair (or in many cases, a total replacement) will cost. Thankfully, this is exactly the type of nightmare scenario that Georgia Power Home Energy Rebates were designed to avoid.

Otherwise known as HEAR for short, the Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates program is the answer to that financial stress. It’s a state program that uses federal funds to help hardworking Georgia families like yours get more efficient home appliances without worrying about how they’re going to pay for them.

But maybe the most important thing to understand about HEAR is that it isn’t some type of mail-in rebate or other long, problematic process you have to go through. This is a discount that comes off the top of the initial purchase price. You don’t pay $15,000 and wait months and months to be reimbursed $14,000. You get everything you need right from the beginning of the process.

A key rule, however, is that you must work with an approved contractor. Thankfully, My Aire Heating and Cooling is fully approved to perform this work.

Eligibility and Income Rules (AMI)

As you might expect, the HEAR program is income-based. It uses a standard called Area Median Income, or AMI, to determine eligibility. This means that it can vary pretty significantly depending on the county.

  • Households that earn below 80% of the AMI can have up to 100% of the project cost covered.
  • If your household earns between 80% and 150% of the AMI, you could still have up to 50% of the total project cost covered.

What Upgrades Qualify (and What Doesn’t)

Major qualifying upgrades and their maximum rebate amounts include:

  • Heat pump water heater – up to $1,750.
  • Heat pump for space heating or cooling – up to $8,000.
  • Electric stove, cooktop, range, oven, heat pump, clothes dryer – up to $840.
  • Electric load service center – up to $4,000.
  • Insulation, air sealing, ventilation – up to $1,600.
  • Electric wiring – up to $2,500

Note that these items must be part of what Georgia refers to as a “Qualified Electrification Project,” or QEP for short.

As you might expect, there are also a number of things that are NOT covered as a part of the HEAR program. These include things like the following:

  • Replacing an electric kitchen appliance with an induction appliance is not allowed under the rules of the program.
  • Clothes dryers are only considered eligible rebates IF you’re upgrading an electric unit to a heat pump clothes dryer.
  • Electric tank water heaters are eligible only if you’re upgrading to a heat pump water heater.

Step-by-Step: From Quote to Rebate

If the rebate process sounds time-consuming or even convoluted, don’t worry. We’re here to help. Our team of NATE-certified HVAC technicians will walk you through every part of the process, removing the stress and paperwork from your plate. We know this is a significant home improvement project, and our goal is to make it affordable. It all starts with a detailed home energy assessment to identify which upgrades will provide the most savings. We handle the confusing applications so that you can get the financial help you need without the headache and focus on what matters most to you. Here’s exactly how we break it down for you.

Step 1 –  Pre-Check Eligibility: We begin by reviewing your income level, household size, and county to confirm your AMI tier. We also verify that your desired project meets HEAR requirements. This includes an energy assessment to identify eligible upgrades.

Step 2 – Get a Written Proposal: Next, we’ll provide a detailed proposal showing the scope of work, eligible equipment, and the exact savings you can expect. You’ll see how your rebates and incentives reduce the final cost before any work begins.

Step 3 – Installation: All installations are performed by our licensed, HEAR-approved team. We handle the permits, inspections, and ensure all work meets ENERGY STAR standards for performance and efficiency. That’s critical, because proper installation directly affects how much you save each month.

Step 4 – Collect Documents: Don’t worry about paperwork. We gather all the required documents, like photos, serial numbers, and invoices, and organize them for you.

Step 5 – Submit Application: Finally, we submit your application and track it until it’s fully processed. You don’t have to lift a finger or deal with the state. We help every step of the way.

How We Helped A Georgia Family Save $15,000 On A New HVAC Installation

Of course, the HEAR program isn’t just great in theory. It’s delivering REAL savings to countless Georgia families like yours. We’ve seen it up close and personal.

One of our recent customers reached out after finishing a basement, and they needed a new heating and cooling system. The total cost for their mini split system and the necessary electrical work was around $15,000.

Here’s how their rebates and incentives stacked up:

  • Mini split system: $8,000 rebate.
  • Electrical panel upgrade: $4,000 rebate.
  • Wiring: $2,000 rebate.

Their final out-of-pocket cost was just $1,000. They paid just $1,000 for a full HVAC system with improved wiring and panel capacity.

In another case, we helped a homeowner install a dual fuel system, which uses both gas and electric heating for maximum flexibility. That project also qualified under HEAR rules and ended with $15,000 in savings after combining rebates for electrical upgrades, equipment, and weatherization improvements like insulation and air sealing.

How to Choose the Right Georgia HVAC Contractor

If you’re thinking about using these incredible incentives, it’s important that you choose your Atlanta area HVAC contractor wisely. Here’s what to look for:

  • They must be a HEAR-approved program contractor. This is absolutely essential. Without it, you won’t qualify for any rebates, no exceptions.
  • They should understand the paperwork. The HEAR application process is complex, and your contractor should be experienced with submitting it accurately and on time, not figuring it out as they go.
  • They should offer a complete solution. Many homes need more than just an HVAC replacement. Look for a team that can also handle electrical panel upgrades, air sealing, and insulation, so you don’t have to coordinate between multiple contractors.
  • They should also offer financing. Even with Georgia Power HVAC financing and rebates, there may be a small balance left. A Georgia Home Energy Rebate-approved contractor should help with that, too.
